:: I like to knit. I really do. At age six, my mom placed my first pair of size seven knitting needles in my hands, together we learned and sang the 'knitting rhyme'. In through the front door - run around the back - down through the middle - and off jumps jack! I was captivated. For the next few years there was a sporadic flow of fresh washcloths hot off my needles as I drifted from phases of reading to knitting to reading to knitting again. I love the yarn, the new textures, new colors; I love the needles and their fresh coolness to compliment the warmth of working fiber in busy hands. There is a peace in the rhythm about knitting. A rocking chair, rainy afternoon sort of peace, and I love it to this day. However, my enthusiasm for this craft is far from perfect, and I am plagued by a bothersome dilemma. I have a remarkable talent for beginning a new project with zeal, but as the knitting pattern grows more dog-eared with time, my ardor wains; the project is put away in a basket soon to be replaced by a new knitting endeavor. As one can imagine, this leads to a lot of "unfinished masterpieces" lying around. My latest attempt was a pair of socks. But alas, Mr. sock has yet to find a partner as he sits in the infamous basket still hanging by a few stitches onto a size of number sixes ... I have been looking on Ravelry over these past few days, and I found this nice, comfy sweater - it looks quite intriguing. I may have to give it a try. After all, I can always finish those socks tomorrow. ::
