anticipating autumn

:: JMJ ::

As I headed out to open up the chickens for the day, the wet blanket of dew laying on the grass and the chilly bite of morning air provided the perfect atmosphere for some early morning reflection ...

The last week of August always seems to straddle Summer and Autumn. Chilly mornings with warm afternoons, it is a week of great variety: from preparing for the academic year to completing an audition that took nearly all Summer to prepare for; from finishing up Summer booklists to stocking up on one's favorite teas ... This last week entails countless important tasks in preparation for the season to come.

Spring is seen as the season of new life and new beginnings, which it most undoubtedly is; however, I believe that the beginning of every season contains a similar atmosphere of newness, inspiration, boldness. Thus, if Spring brings feelings of anticipation for flowers and warm air and gardens and the end of school and such, Autumn too must have it's objects of anticipation. And just because I like lists, I think I shall name a few that I am certainly anticipating in this last week of August:

:: Books. There is nothing quite like cracking open a new unexplored textbook just waiting to be read.

:: Knitting Projects. Ironically, while Spring seems to discourage my knitting zeal, Autumn only inflames it.

:: Cold Mornings. The necessity of having to pop on socks so as to make it across one's bedroom without frostbite ... I love it.

:: New Pencils. Winter, Spring, and Summer always manages to deteriorate our fresh pencil supply down to pathetic and eraser-less little stubs. When the academic years begins again in September, fresh pencils are attained and treasured for a little while ... until the cycle starts all over again.

:: Pumpkins and apples. I am afraid no Autumn season would be the same without an abundant supply.

Yes. Autumn will be wonderful. I can feel it already, but for now, I am so happy to treasure this last week of August and each and every blessing that it brings ...

Blessings to you!
