souvenirs

:: I often find myself sitting in amazement at the countless blessings placed in my life by His hand. Blessings that may seem inconspicuous at times, but when one chooses to look for them, they can be found shining so very brightly. I have grown to learn that each day holds an incredible gift, an incredible grace. Something wonderful and new to ponder, to experience, to hold in my heart as a priceless souvenir for years to come.

A gift such as this recently came to me in the form of a Bridal Shower. Bridal Showers are a new business to me as I do not remember attending any in years past. Thus, yesterday presented a new and rather foreign adventure . . . To be honest, when I am faced by a room of people known to me only remotely, my shy personality instinctively retreats to "hide". And so, when I was not assisting in the kitchen, I spent my first Bridal Shower in a cozy corner, armed with a plate of desserts and (of course) my camera. I observed a lot from my corner, and I believe that the observations (procured because of my unobtrusive haven) are what made this Bridal Shower the beautiful blessing that it was.

Bridal Showers first originated in the 1890s for the very purpose of blessing Brides with gifts in anticipation of their Wedding. Today, in the year of 2015 (125 years later) this tradition can still bring together a room full of women. Each guest living very different lives and vocations, with different beliefs, aspirations, and personalities, yet all drawn together to welcome another bride into the family. They shower her with gifts to encourage and inspire this woman as she begins her journey in the vocation of Marriage - to me, that was a powerful and deeply touching testament. As Christians, we imitate our Lord in the giving of ourselves and possessions to others, as well as supporting our brothers and sisters in Christ as they experience the Will of God in their life.

Wherever God may lead my life, I know I will always be blessed by the beautiful souvenir I received on this particular hot August afternoon spent in a wonderfully air conditioned niche. ::

God Bless you!
