lonely wisconsin mountain goat
Ok, perhaps my heaving, sweaty form, stumbling up the treacherous path of Mt. Washington is not worthy of comparison to a Mountain Goat.
Regardless, I made it to the top and promptly celebrated my victory over a bowl of chili and mug of hot chocolate. So, that’s all that really matters.
College days have begun for me, and though bouts of homesickness and apprehension in face of the unknown challenges that lie ahead erupt from time to time… life has been very good. I really do love the scenery here in the Northeast! We climbed to the highest peak in this neck of the woods for Freshman Orientation, and I, familiar with hiking horizontally though not vertically, accomplished what I had before speculated as physically impossible.
My journey up and down Mt. Washington was about eight hours in total, and this little mountain goat really learned a lot as she climbed! I was muttering to myself all the way how wonderfully the physical exertion served as a metaphor to the school year ahead.
Here am I, the lonely Wisconsin mountain goat, standing at the very foot of Mt. ‘College’, ready to take trail “freshman year” wherever it leads me. Despite sweat and fatigue and anxiety, a mountain must be climbed to be truly enjoyed, and once you get to the top, what a wonderful view…
Do tell Graci.... what was the air temp at the beginning of your ascent and also, what was the air temp that you were greeted with as you peaked Mt. Washington?? We love you and your photos that brought us very close to being with you!!
