starting small - day 9: more greenhouse

June 5th, 2017 - This is the ninth day of a 40 day blogging challenge: some pictures and words each day. Come back tomorrow to see more posts!

~~~
I stood in the greenhouse for three hours, planting melon seeds. It was quiet in the morning, except for the rain. And when the rain took a break, the birds. One flat planted, I moved on to another, and another, and another. Seeds were tucked in for a little nap. And then they begin to grow.
I can't think of a better job.
There is something very alive about a greenhouse. The warmth and earthy smell soaks into your skin the minute you step inside. The plants cast a green hue over the entire enclosure, and although the plastic membrane has closed the greenhouse off from the elements, the songs of outside -- birds, rain, and wind -- still penetrate. There is a definite vibrance in the greenhouse. A warm embrace of development, a concentrated atmosphere of growth.
It's a bit like a womb, the greenhouse. And as I spent my morning tucking countless seeds into warm potting soil, I was drawn into the quiet. The hush of the greenhouse is infectious ... and beautiful. I plant rhythmically, silently, and in peace. And the plants grow.
