starting small - day 25: remembering brambly hedge

June 21th, 2017 - This is the twenty-fifth day of a 40 day blogging challenge: some pictures and words each day. Come back tomorrow to see more posts!

Growing up, my favorite part of a book was the pictures. These days my bookshelf doesn't hold many picture books, but there are two exceptions to the rule: my illustrated copy of Winnie-the-Pooh and Brambly Hedge!

Brambly Hedge is a watercolor world of simplicity. In Brambly Hedge, the little families of mice thrive through the seasons, living happily, carefreely, and contently. Brambly Hedge is intricately mapped out in the pictures, and there is minute detail and order in every aspect. Brambly Hedge is quiet and peaceful: there are warm fires in the winter and picnics in summer. All problems in Brambly Hedge are fixed through simplicity and kindness. There is an appreciation for the splendid found in the small. Every moment is precious, valued, and unique.

How I miss the days of Brambly Hedge! Curled in front of the fire in winter, or padded down in field in the summer sun, it was the book of my childhood. In it's own right, Brambly Hedge is a monument for those days, days that were simple and quiet and kind.

These are good days too as I grow up, but I become nostalgic for Brambly Hedge every once in a while. Today, I find it on my bookshelf, dust it off, and curl up on the couch with this precious book and a cup of tea.
